2022 EpicSurf Highlight Reel

As we look back on 2022, we want to share some highlights of the year and express our stoke and gratitude to our EpicSurf team, friends and partners who have supported, collaborated with, and elevated our presence in this surging, global, manmade wave industry.

A few epic snapshots from 2022:

SLAM-O-RAMA

Many thanks to Hyperflex Wetsuits and our friend, Conrad Ferla, for hosting the “Slam-O-Rama” and introducing some of the finest surf shops on the east coast to EpicSurf. Good times were had by all while these ocean surfers battled for the bragging rights on the only deep-water stationary wave made in the USA. Retail ambassadors hailed from Maine to New Jersey and included: Black
Point Surf Shop (ME), WND&WVS (VT), Nor’easter Surf Shop (MA), Narragansett Surf & Skate (MA), Rhode Island Surf Co (RI), Sounding Surf Co (RI), Matunuck Surf Shop (RI), Breakwater Surf Co. (NY), and Wave Hog Surf Shop (NJ). Thanks for spreading the stoke about your epic experience!

SENEGALESE SURFING FEDERATION

It was an absolute honor to host the Senegalese Surfing Federation for a two-day cross-training session before they competed at the International Surfing Association World Surfing Games at Huntington Beach, CA. The team of 10 athletes and coaches had a blast on EpicSurf while maximizing reps and turns and preparing for the Paris Olympic 2024 qualifying event. After experiencing our deep-water stationary wave, Senegal’s first WSL surfer, champion, and now coach, Oumar Seye assessed “this machine will help train and develop surfers in so many ways, especially beneficial on days the ocean is not cooperating.”

As a World Games sponsor, the EpicSurf Team was on the beach with Ian “Kanga” Cairns, legendary big wave surfer and 3x World Champion USA Team Coach to share the merits of EpicSurf as an adjunct training platform for ISA National Member programs. It was a pleasure to watch the world’s greatest surfers, 247 athletes from 51 nations, gathered to compete for the first two spots in the Paris 2024 lineup. USA and Japan seized gold, while our new friends from Senegal did not claim any medals at Huntington Beach, they were undoubtedly a crowd favorite on the beach.

ALL ABILITIES PROGRAMMING

This year we joined forces with AMPSurf, Lifesong, VA Adaptive Sports and a team of enthusiastic novice surfers with diverse abilities to ensure EpicSurf is a safe, inclusive, and accessible experience for all abilities. We were beyond grateful to welcome Christiaan “Otter” Bailey to the lineup! A highly decorated surfing champion, Captain of the USA Surfing Team, and to date the only adaptive surfer to charge Mavericks and Pipeline. As an ambassador of the adaptive sports movement, Otter was enthusiastic to join the team. He shared “My ultimate goal is to empower disabled youngsters, to pursue their dreams despite the challenges we face!” Feedback from this awe-inspiring collaboration has been used to implement improvements to our overall surfing experience and develop best practices for programming that will be shared with EpicSurf buyers.

At this year’s Surf Park Summit in San Diego, CA, EpicSurf was proud to receive Surf Park Central’s Innovation Award for “Democratizing Waves to More People.” This honor represents the culmination of our efforts to expand access to waves and to share surfing’s positive physical, mental, and emotional benefits with people that do not live near the ocean or those that prefer a more controlled surfing experience.
